The Fukane Castle Ruins, a designated cultural property of Shimoda City, are the remains of a fortified residence once ruled by a powerful local lord in the Muromachi period.
Here grows a weeping cherry tree said to be over 160 years old.
In the late Sengoku period, this place suffered a tragic fate when Hojo Soun’s campaign to conquer Izu destroyed it. The weeping cherry planted here later blooms spectacularly each year in early April.
