This atmospheric path is said to be the route Commodore Perry’s party took toward Ryosenji Temple during the late Edo period.

Along the roughly 400 m stretch, you’ll find stone paving, rows of willow trees, and old houses with namako (plaster-patterned) walls, creating a scene full of Shimoda’s charm.

Today the street hosts cafes, craft shops, and galleries, so you can take your time enjoying a historical stroll and a leisurely walk around town.
