The Japan International Billfish Tournament (JIBT) takes place over four days in mid‑July off the coast around Shimoda Port. The event is organized by the Japan Game Fish Association (JGFA). 

Shimoda and the nearby Izu Islands have long been prime billfish waters and once prospered on billfish fishing.

The Japan International Billfish Tournament carries on the traditions of this fishing village.
