In Shimoda’s Rendaiji area, we usually see weeping peach blossoms along the riverside from late March to early April.
The satoyama landscape turns soft pink, inviting pleasant spring strolls, and we hold the Shidare Momo no Sato Matsuri to celebrate the season.
During the festival, the nationally designated Important Cultural Property, the Seated statue of Dainichi Nyorai, is open to the public.
On weekends, hina decorations line the 118 steps up to Tenjin Jinja, creating a festive scene.
Rendaiji Onsen sits nearby, with hand and foot baths dotted around, so you can easily enjoy hot springs during your walk.
The area also features Yoshida Shoin Gukisho, the lodging associated with the late-Edo thinker Yoshida Shoin, where you can feel the history alongside the blossoms.
Come to Rendaiji and soak in the gentle spring scenery.
